My Heater Started Smoking When I Turned It On

DIAL 561-SERVICE or 561-777-9888

WHY IS MY HEATER SMOKING?

When is the last time you turned your heater on. Dust and debris collects on the heater while its not in use occurring it to burn off once heater is finally cut on to use. This is from a build up over a extended period of time of dust & pollen. When u finally wait till winter to cut your heater on it has collected a thick layer of dust that will burn off as soon as you turn it on. Do not panic once it burns off that harsh smell and smoke will fade away. You should routinely clean Ur heater of all dirt and bacteria’s which we offer in our routine maintenance.

WHY IS THIS WHITE SMOKE OCCURING?

Fog or smoke coming out the air vents is caused by cold dry air coming in contact with warmer, more moist air near the air conditioner. If the air temperature near the unit is below Dew Point, this causes water vapor to form in the air and condense into water droplets causing the fog or smoke

Cold Dry Air That Came in Contact With Warm Air

When the cold air hits the warm air, white smoke or fog can develop. If the unit’s temperature is below its dew point, water vapor and moisture are formed. Then, they condense in the air as water droplets producing the smoke or fog.

If your indoor humidity is higher than normal, this can make the smoke even worse. Low fan speed and clogged air filters due to dirt buildup can also aggravate the situation. When the airflow is reduced, cold can be exposed longer to the moist air, causing a greater problem. Here is what you should do:

  • Keep the air filters clean at all times.
  • Run your A/C fan on high speed to cool your indoor air a lot faster.
  • Schedule a regular A/C inspection.
  • You are absolutely safe if the steam is odorless because it’s possibly just a humidity or condensation issue. But, if it smells like burnt wire caused by mechanical corrosion or something, then you could have big trouble. If you notice something goes wrong with your air conditioner and you are not sure what’s happening, the best thing to do is to call A-1 Heat and Air Conditioning for a solution.
