When is the last time you turned your heater on. Dust and debris collects on the heater while its not in use occurring it to burn off once heater is finally cut on to use. Fog or smoke coming out the air vents is caused by cold dry air coming in contact with warmer, more moist air near the air conditioner. If the air temperature near the unit is below Dew Point, this causes water vapor to form in the air and condense into water droplets causing the fog or smoke
Cold Dry Air That Came in Contact With Warm Air
When the cold air hits the warm air, white smoke or fog can develop. If the unit’s temperature is below its dew point, water vapor and moisture are formed. Then, they condense in the air as water droplets producing the smoke or fog.
If your indoor humidity is higher than normal, this can make the smoke even worse. Low fan speed and clogged air filters due to dirt buildup can also aggravate the situation. When the airflow is reduced, cold can be exposed longer to the moist air, causing a greater problem. Here is what you should do:
